Rebecca Poutasse is a Communications Assistant, a role she started in July 2020 after serving as a Communications intern. Rebecca helps plan and execute media strategies to promote the Center’s research and analysis. She fields press inquiries, conducts media outreach, and works closely with policy experts to develop messaging on a range of policy issues. She also serves as an Internship Coordinator, developing, coordinating, and supervising various elements of the internship program to ensure a meaningful and productive experience for interns and for the organization.
Previously, she worked as a Communications Assistant for Virginia Tech’s Global Education Office, where she wrote press releases and feature stories highlighting students’ international learning experiences, and spearheaded a crowdfunding campaign to increase support for underrepresented students in their efforts to study abroad. She also interned with the External Affairs team at public charter school KIPP DC, where she led an initiative to secure school enrichment opportunities and drafted internal and external communications.
She graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Arts in multimedia journalism with minors in professional and technical writing, leadership and social change, and global engagement.
