T. Scott Bunton
Bunton, the Center’s Senior Advisor, has a wide range of experience in national, state, and international policy.
Prior to joining the Center in 2009, he served as Executive Director of the bipartisan U.S. China Economic and Security Review Commission, a congressional advisory body.
From 1998 to 2005 Bunton was a senior executive with the Department of Commerce and the Department of Homeland Security. Before working in the Executive Branch, he held senior U.S. Senate staff posts for 15 years, including Director of the Senate Democratic leadership committee’s professional staff, senior advisor to Senate Majority Leader Byrd (D-WV), Chief of Staff to Senator Wirth (D-CO), and Director of Legislation and Policy for Senator Kerry (D-MA).
Bunton came to federal government service following several years in state government, including positions with the Texas House of Representatives’ Committee on Human Resources and in the Texas governor’s Washington office. In addition, as Staff Director for the National Governors Association’s Committee on Human Resources, he worked on such issues as welfare reform and health planning and financing.
A native of Texas, Bunton graduated from Baylor University.
