Richard Phillips is a sophomore at American University majoring in Political Science and Interdisciplinary Studies. Richard is President of American University’s Fair Trade Students Association and is a member of the Community Action and Social Justice Coalition. Richard plans to pursue a master’s degree and work for progressive policy organizations in Washington, DC.

Andrew Cleland, Federal Fiscal Policy |
Andrew Cleland is an intern for the Federal Fiscal Policy Division. He graduated from Earlham College in May 2007 with a major in physics and a minor in politics. Andrew is currently taking classes part time at American University as preparation for graduate study in economics.

| Dang Du, DCFPI |
Dang Du has an undergraduate background is in economics and is now pursuing his master’s degree in pubic policy at the Johns Hopkins University. His policy interests include economic development issues such as poverty, inequality, and unemployment. Prior to joining the Center, Dang was a research assistant at the Worldwatch Institute where he studied how community-driven development projects in third world countries can scale-up to become multi-sectoral partnerships.

Tianca Crocker, Health Policy |
Tianca graduated from the University of Virginia in 2002 with a B.A. in African American Studies. She will complete her Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Social Change and Leadership from George Mason University in May. Prior to joining the Center, she worked in child welfare, specifically domestic and international adoption. Tianca plans to pursue a career in policy analysis and administration to support the elimination of health disparities.

| Valerie Norton, Housing Policy |
Valerie is currently interning with the Center's Housing Policy team after serving during the fall semester as the Legislative Affairs intern. She graduated with honors from the University of California at Berkeley in May 2007 with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor from the Goldman School of Public Policy. Prior to joining the Center, Valerie interned on Capitol Hill for Senator Dianne Feinstein where she worked on health issues, including analysis of the Medicare Part D program. Her senior thesis on welfare reforms of the 104th Congress focused on the interaction politics and policy in the development of federal funding formula design. Valerie plans to pursue graduate studies in public policy or law.

| Leah Staub, Housing Policy |
Leah is a Masters student at the Johns Hopkins University Institute for Policy Studies. She is interning with the Housing Policy Division. Leah previously pursued her interests in housing policy as an Americorps*VISTA volunteer with the Housing Unit of the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law and doing grantwriting for local homeless services programs. She graduated from Earlham College with a degree in Human Development and Social Relations in 2002.

Lauren Albrecht, Media |
Lauren Albrecht is an intern in the communications office. She graduated from the University of Georgia as a Presidential Scholar with an A.B.J. in advertising in May 2007. Prior to interning with the Center, Lauren worked for The Red and Black newspaper as a page and layout designer. She also interned at Allied Advertising and Public Relations as a media and publicity assistant for The Weinstein Company film studio.

Zach Levinson, Food Assistance & Welfare Reform and Income Support |
Zach Levinson is interning with the Food Assistance and Welfare Reform and Income Support Divisions. Zach became especially interested in working with welfare and food assistance policy after interning for Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. during the summer of 2007. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in December 2007 with a B.A. in Political Science and plans to pursue a Masters of Public Policy next fall.

Christopher Brown, International Budget Project |
Christopher Brown is an intern with the Center's International Budget Project. In May 2007 Chris received a M.A. from the Catholic University of America Department of Politics. Chris became interested in international civil society and governance issues while attending graduate school. He has previously worked the Conference of State Bank Supervisors, a trade association that works in banking regulation and policy, and for the Urban Institute’s Metropolitan Housing and Communities Policy Center.
