Shelby Gonzales
Shelby Gonzales is the Senior Project Associate in the Outreach Division. In this capacity, Gonzales focuses primarily on supporting states, advocates and community groups in implementing effective outreach and program simplification strategies to increase enrollment and retention of children in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
Prior to joining the Center, Gonzales was the vice president of All Kids Covered, a National Action Strategy of America’s Promise Alliance. From 1997 to 2007, Gonzales worked for Inova Health System in northern Virginia. She was directly involved in the creation and implementation of Inova’s Partnership for Healthier Kids (PHK), a multi-sector collaborative focused on connecting uninsured children to health care services including Medicaid and CHIP; providing disease and injury prevention programs; and health promotion designed to address the most pressing and actionable pediatric health needs in the community. During Gonzales’s tenure with Inova, the PHK program connected over 20,000 previously uninsured children to a source of ongoing healthcare and reached over 50,000 children, parents, and educators through the delivery of prevention activities.
